Washington, Mar 27 -

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) ) is joined by Congressman David Dreier (CA-26, R) in welcoming Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and members of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce at a press conference to kick-off the chamber’s annual “Access D.C.” visit on Capitol Hill. The delegation includes nearly 200 business and civic leaders from across the Los Angeles region who met with more than 50 elected officials, including members of Congress and administration officials, to advocate for federal investments in the region, including transportation and goods movement infrastructure, anti-gang activities, and education and workforce development. The press conference also included Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Gary Toebben and Board Chair David Fleming; L.A. Police Chief William Bratton; LAUSD Superintendent David L. Brewer III; Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle; and Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom. During Congresswoman Roybal-Allard’s opening remarks, she said, “I am proud to represent the district that the LA Area Chamber calls home … This year’s motto Southern California is a National Asset is a message that must be made understandable and relevant to my congressional colleagues who represent different parts of our nation. Unity and focus in advocating for our region are the keys to success. Today you will help to highlight how federal investment in areas such as transportation and goods movement in Southern California is an investment that ultimately benefits my colleagues’ constituents and the economy of the entire country. The competition for scarce federal dollars has never been fiercer and your united message and presence with this large and diverse delegation have never been more critical. I look forward to continuing to work with you on behalf of Los Angeles and the Southern California region.”
