The Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration congratulates Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) on recently joining the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee
Washington, Mar 22 -
The Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), shown on right, congratulates Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) on recently joining the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees federal funding for all programs and agencies of the U.S. Department of Transportation, including NHTSA. Administrator Nicole Nason provided the congresswoman with an overview of the Administration's priorities, including efforts to curb drunk driving. The congresswoman is joining forces with NHTSA and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in support of a national crackdown called Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. Under the initiative, the federal government is dedicating $29 million a year this year and for the next two years to publicize anti-drunk driving efforts and to promote the use of safety belts. The crackdown uses a proven model of paid advertising and aggressive public education efforts to get the word out to potential offenders that if they drive drunk, they will be arrested. Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest delivers on the promise of arrest by working with law enforcement to plan highly visible and publicized enforcement activities such as sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to find and arrest, and ultimately deter, drunk drivers. Established by Congress in 1966, the NHTSA’s mission is to reduce fatalities and injuries on our nation's roads. -- ### --
