Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) Thanked Advocates on Behalf of Victims of Domestic Violence
Washington,
Mar 4 -
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanked advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence for traveling to our nation’s capital to lobby lawmakers about the importance of funding domestic violence services at a reception held in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
The congresswoman said their efforts help to keep critical issues such as legislation to help victims of domestic violence from falling through the cracks amid a very busy congressional legislative schedule. The congresswoman also thanked the advocates for working to advance a measure she authored called the Security and Financial Empowerment Act, or SAFE Act. Her legislation would help to ensure that victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking have the financial independence they need to break free from their abusers. Under the SAFE Act, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking who are forced to leave a job because of the abuse would be eligible for unemployment benefits. They would also be able to take unpaid leave from work without the fear of being fired to address immediate needs such as obtaining legal assistance, medical care or to find a safe place to live.
