Washington, Feb 19, 2008 -

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Mayor Villaraigosa and other local leaders at a press conference to discuss the Economic Stimulus package recently passed by Congress and other local initiatives to create jobs and better protect the environment. The event was located atop the Los Angeles Convention Center’s solar rooftop parking lot which is part of the largest solar energy-generating convention center in North America. At the event, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard made the following introductory remarks:

“It is my personal honor to welcome Speaker Nancy Pelosi to my 34th Congressional District and to our great City of Los Angeles.

Speaker Pelosi has been an inspiration and a true friend to me during my 15 years in Congress.

And she is an outstanding and effective Speaker for those privileged to serve under her leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives.

An example of that leadership is the key role she played in achieving the swift passage of the bipartisan economic stimulus package.

This stimulus legislation will help our ailing economy by putting dollars in the pockets of hardworking Americans struggling to make ends meet.

Under the Speaker’s strong and determined leadership, we will continue to craft long-term solutions to ensure our nation’s economic stability, our global competitiveness, and the vast earning potential of working and middle-class Americans.

Today, Speaker Pelosi and Mayor Villaraigosa, will in part, focus on a particularly exciting piece of economic revitalization - the Green economic sector and the expansion of green jobs.

It is now my pleasure to introduce a man who clearly understands the important role local and federal partnerships play in the future of Los Angeles.

As a tireless advocate on behalf of our great city he is a welcome sight in the halls of Congress. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.”
