Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) announces the deadline for the 24th Annual Lucille Roybal-Allard Student Art Competition is Friday, February 3, 2017, at 5:00 PM PST.  The competition is open to all students in grades 9-12 who reside in the 40th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Maywood, Paramount, Vernon, and parts of Bellflower, East Los Angeles, Florence-Graham, South Los Angeles, and Walnut Park.

“I can’t wait to see the creative and eye-catching artworks submitted for this year’s competition,” said Congresswoman Roybal-Allard.  “Every year, I am dazzled by the magnificent art produced by our 40th District students, and I know that this year will be no exception.”

The winning entry will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year as part of the Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition for high school students.  The winning student will also be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, a gift certificate for art supplies, and travel arrangements for two to attend the opening of the national exhibit in Washington, DC.  Awards will also be presented to other top entries.  Winning entries will be announced later this year in May at the Citadel during an awards program held in conjunction with the closing ceremony for a local exhibit of the competition entries.

Artwork must be two-dimensional, no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches, and no smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches.  A submission must be an original concept.  It cannot be a reproduction, nor inspired by an existing photo, painting, graphic, advertisement or any work by another person, nor infringe upon the rights of a third party.  Art forms that can be used individually or in combination are paintings, drawings, prints, film or digital photography, and computer-generated art.

Entries, along with completed entry forms and statements of compliance and understanding, should be delivered by Friday, February 3, 2017, at 5:00 PM PST to:
