Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) visited with more than 60 senior citizens at the St. Barnabas Senior Center’s Chinatown site on North Hill Street.

During the congresswoman’s remarks, she provided the seniors with an overview of her constituent casework services available by contacting her Downtown district office at (213) 628-9230.  She also spoke about the importance of reviewing their Medicare prescription drug plans to ensure that they enroll in the most advantageous plan prior to the December 31st deadline.  In addition, she discussed the upcoming Digital Television Transition deadline, which is February 17, 2009.  After that date, she told the audience, broadcasters will air digital signals exclusively and televisions that rely on a rooftop antenna or “rabbit ears” will no longer work properly. For those televisions, she said viewers will need to obtain a converter box to continue using the set.  More information about the transition and converter box coupons is available at www.dtv.gov or by calling 1-888-DTV-2009.

Since 1908, the St. Barnabas Senior Center of Los Angeles has been providing seniors and their family caregivers with a wide array of supportive services.
