The East Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce honored Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) for her leadership in the community at a ceremony held at Stevens Steak and Seafood House. Pictured in the photo, Chamber President Eddie Torres, Jr. presents the recognition award to the congresswoman, which reads: “Our Business Community Hereby Recognizes And Applauds You For The Many Years of Dedication and Determination To The East Los Angeles Community, Especially In The Areas of Economic Development In Bringing the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension To Our Community.”
In accepting the award, the congresswoman made the following remarks:
“I thank your President Eddie Torres, and the members of the Executive Board and the Board of Directors for tonight’s special recognition. This award is a great honor for me because it comes from an organization that is dedicated to the success of our small business community.
The East Los Angeles Chamber was a key ally in helping me build consensus among the local chambers of the 34th Congressional District that helps them leverage their resources, increase their effectiveness, and develop a mutually beneficial relationship with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Eddie Torres was one of the first to offer his help to build this consensus.
When collaboration efforts became difficult, Board Member Yolanda Duarte stepped up to the plate and worked with my office to coordinate meetings with the local chambers. These meetings resulted in the formation of relationships that created a network of communication and collaboration among these chambers. The leadership role and support of the East LA Chamber, in partnership with the Boyle Heights Chamber helped to make the 34th Congressional District Chamber Alliance a reality.
During this time of economic crisis, I look forward to working with The East L.A. Chamber and the Alliance to ensure the backbone of our economy, our nation’s small business community, is strengthened and protected so we can once again enjoy a vibrant local and national economy and regain our leadership role in the world.
I extend my congratulations to the other honorees. The services you provide to the East Los Angeles community are invaluable and it is a privilege to be recognized with you this evening.”
