Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) presented a Congressional Record Tribute to Ramona Ripston, who has served as the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California for 36 years. At the event, the ACLU of Southern California dedicated their new building, the Ramona Ripston Center for Civil Liberties and Civil Rights, in her honor. When she assumed the position of executive director, Ms. Ripston was the first woman to head up an ACLU office. The ACLU’s new center, which is located at 1313 W. 8th Street, is located in the 34th Congressional District.
