Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard greeted about 200 senior citizens at Angelus Plaza’s holiday party, where she distributed calendars and reminded them about the December 31 deadline for re-enrollment in Medicare Part D. With approximately 1,300 residents, Angelus Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles is the largest senior activity and housing center in the 34th Congressional District. Many of the senior citizen participants of Angelus Plaza’s activities are also residents of the plaza. The wide range of activities for the seniors include language classes, shopping trips, dancing classes, Bible studies, movie nights, computer classes and exercise classes. In 2002, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard secured $75,000 for Angelus Plaza to acquire multi-language translation equipment, which is frequently used by the seniors for large informational and educational events, workshops and seminars.
