At a reunion celebration in Bell, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanks the men and women serving in a U.S. Army Reserve Unit based in Bell dedicated to providing emergency medical care to troops in the field. The 349th Combat Support Hospital unit is comprised of doctors, nurses, lab technicians, hospital administrators and other medical professionals who take care of the wounded during combat until they can be transferred to army hospitals throughout the world. During the event, the congresswoman made the following remarks: “I want to thank you all for your patriotism and commitment as you serve this country. I believe that all Americans understand the sacrifice that you and your families make to ensure that our men and women in the armed forces receive the quality medical care they deserve. You all play a pivotal role in saving the lives of our troops injured in combat. While Americans differ on the approach to ending hostilities, we share a common pride in our men and women in uniform. You all know better than most the profound physical costs that war takes on our troops, and why so many of us want to bring them home as soon as possible. While we seek a successful military and political solution to the war, we are moving to ensure that our troops and veterans have access to the care they have earned. Congress has moved to expand access to quality health care for our troops and veterans, including strengthening post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury care at military facilities. I am committed to continuing to do everything I can in Washington to ensure that you have what you need to respond to the needs of our troops. Thank you for sharing this day with me, and I wish you all a safe and blessed holiday season.”
