Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard greeted seniors at Keiro Retirement Home’s holiday party, where she spoke about growing up in multicultural Boyle Heights. She distributed calendars to the seniors and spoke with the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles and his wife, Consul Kazuo Kodama and Mrs. Kodama, and Shawn Miyake, Chief Executive Officer of Keiro Senior HealthCare, the retirement home’s parent company. The holiday party was organized by the Friends of Keiro Retirement Home, a support group for the organization. Keiro Retirement Home opened in 1975 as one of the first Japanese American independent living facilities in the United States. The home provides care for about 140 residents in a culturally sensitive environment with familiar language, food, and customs for the seniors in their golden years. The complex at 325 South Boyle Avenue houses both Keiro Retirement Home and Keiro Intermediate Care Facility, an assisted living facility with about 90 beds.
