Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) meets with Downey Adult School Program Coordinator Judy Laman of Bellflower who traveled to our nation’s capital to urge lawmakers to support federal funding increases for adult basic education and literacy programs. Located on Woodruff Avenue in Downey, the Downey Adult School serves 14,000 adults each year and is part of the Downey Unified School District. Established in 1940, the school offers a wide-variety of adult education and career-related courses. In addition to a strong high school diploma/GED program, the school’s courses help students achieve the qualifications needed to pursue careers ranging from bookkeeping and court reporting to positions in the nursing field.
