Marisa Rivera-Albert, President of the National Hispana Leadership Institute (pictured on right), presents Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) with the Institute’s 2007 Latina Congressional Award for her “lifetime of leadership, tireless commitment, and invaluable contributions of service to the Hispanic Community.” The National Hispana Leadership Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and leadership development of Hispanic women. The Institute’s mission is to develop Hispanas as ethical world leaders through training, professional development, relationship building and community and world activism. Prior to receiving the honor, the congresswoman spoke to the Institute’s fellows who traveled to our nation’s capital to participate in the final and fourth week of the Institute’s leadership training program entitled, “Impacting Decisionmakers and National Policy.” The congresswoman spoke about the significant contributions of earlier trailblazers in the Latino community who paved the way for the current generation of Latino leaders to serve in public office and achieve the American Dream. The Institute’s Board Chairwoman, Ingrid Duran, is also pictured on the left.
