Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) congratulates Dr. David C. Lizárraga - President and CEO of TELACU/Millennium based in East Los Angeles in the 34th District - for providing expert testimony earlier in the day before the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee. Dr. Lizárraga testified in support of the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Act of 2007, which would maintain and improve existing senior housing, allow housing-providers to adjust to cost fluctuations, and expand the supply of affordable housing for the elderly in our country. TELACU (The East Los Angeles Community Union) was founded in 1968 and is self-sustained by TELACU Industries, a for-profit family of companies which provides the economic means to fulfill TELACU's mission. TELACU began developing senior housing in 1975 and today owns and operates Section 202 and tax credit-financed housing communities that serve thousands and thousands of low-income seniors and families in the Greater Los Angeles Area and throughout Southern California. With assets in excess of $500 million, TELACU brings together the private and public sectors in profitable business ventures. Through its businesses, services and partnerships, TELACU works to empower communities through the creation of jobs, responsive financial institutions, successful businesses, quality affordable housing, and educational opportunities for young people and veterans. In recognition of his accomplishments at the helm of TELACU and as chair of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latino Leaders Magazine recently named Dr. Lizárraga one of the country's "Top 101 Influential Leaders in the Latino Community."
