Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard spoke to high school students participating in the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles' Adelante Leadership Summer Program
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard urged high school students participating in the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles' Adelante Leadership Summer Program to further their education as a critical means toward a better life. During her remarks, the congresswoman commended the students on their participation in the program and said, "You chose to be here because you have a thirst for learning and succeeding in life." During the 16-week program, the students learn quantitative and communication skills to prepare them for admission to four year universities. The program is designed to further enhance the students’ self-esteem, personal growth, career options and college readiness. The Adelante program also provides an opportunity for students to learn from distinguished professionals within a college classroom setting. This leadership program is comprised of three components: The Congressional Award Program; Summer Leadership Symposium; and College Advisement Workshops. The program is the brain child of Mr. Angel Obregon, Assistant Vice President of Government Relations at AltaMed Health Services Corporation, and operates in partnership with the University of California and the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles. Following the discussion, the group presented a shirt bearing the program's logo to the congresswoman and thanked her for her ongoing support of local youth.
