Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard meets with the Vidarte Family of Downey in the 34th Congressional District prior to a tour of the U.S. Capitol led by a member of the congresswoman's staff. The family traveled to our nation's capital to visit Stefanie who is spending her summer working as an intern in the DC office of the Attorney General in the Civil Litigation division. A senior at the University of California at Irvine (UCI), Stefanie said her internship experience working with Assistant Attorney General David Jackson has reaffirmed her interest in attending law school. The internship was made possible through the University of California UCDC summer internship program. In addition to her internship, Stefanie is also the coordinator for the internship program on her campus. She coordinates events for the interns while in DC and will help recruit, interview and place UC Irvine students in future DC internships upon returning home. Among her other involvements at UCI, Stefanie is the marketing coordinator for the Social Sciences Academic Resource Center and a member of the Social Sciences Dean's Ambassadors Council and the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. About her summer experience in DC, the political science and sociology major said, "I have learned a great deal about the history of the United States and have enjoyed visiting all the monuments and museums. I have also gained a greater appreciation for all the people who have given their service and continue to serve this great country to make it what it is today. During my time in DC, I have become very inspired to pursue public service and give back to the country that has given so much to me. I have learned that there are many opportunities to make a positive impact." Both Stefanie and her younger sister, Jessica, are graduates of Warren High School in Downey.
