Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard participated in the grand opening festivities for a new Ralphs Fresh Fare grocery store in downtown Los Angeles in the 34th District, the first major grocery store in the area in 50 years. An estimated one thousand people gathered at the front steps of the store at 645 West 9th Street between Flower and Olive Streets in downtown, where the congresswoman joined Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the store’s opening. About 160 new jobs were created by the store’s opening. Pictured in the first photo, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard holds up coupons she plans to use while shopping at the new Ralphs market, as (left to right) Dave Hirz, President, Ralphs; Cecilia Estolano, Chief Executive Officer, Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles (CRA); and Carol Schatz, President, Central City Association of Los Angeles applaud.
