Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) meets with Downey pharmacy owners John and Karen Tilley, their daughter, Erin, and Downey Pharmacist Robert Fox during a visit to our nation's capital for the National Community Pharmacists Association's National Legislative Conference.  As part of the conference, the pharmacists lobbied Members of Congress about legislative issues affecting independent pharmacy owners. Erin Tilley, however, had her own agenda.  The six-year-old received a certificate and ribbon at the Library of Congress for being an art finalist in the River of Words contest for her artwork titled "Two Ducks in the Rain."  Her work, along with the other winners, will be shown around the world for the next year.  Each child also received a bound anthology featuring all of the 2007 art work and poetry. Each year, in affiliation with the Library of Congress' Center for the Book, River of Words conducts a free international poetry and art contest for youth on the theme of WATERSHEDS. The contest is designed to help youth explore the natural and cultural history of the place they live, and to express, through poetry and art, what they discover. The contest is open to any child in the world, from 5-19 years of age. Erin's older sister, Shannon, age 8, was a finalist last year in the same contest for her winning entry titled "Cats."
