Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) meets with national board members of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, including Dr. Munson A. Kwok of Los Angeles, who is the national president and current Development Chair of the Friends of the Chinese American Museum situated in El Pueblo de Los Angeles Monument in the congresswoman’s 34th District. The members of the civil and human rights organization discussed issues of importance to the Chinese American and Asian Pacific Islander American communities. The legislative topics included: comprehensive immigration reform; veterans issues addressing cultural and language support for family caregivers whose limited English proficiency may impede the best care for first-generation wounded and disabled veterans returning from Iraq; support of the Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2007; recognition of the contributions of Chinese and other Asian Pacific Islanders who fought in the American Civil War; and the historic preservation of sites and artifacts of early Chinese American settlements in the west.
