Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard hosted a roundtable meeting of community business leaders representing 14 area chambers of commerce in the 34th Congressional District. Called the “34th Congressional District Chamber of Commerce Alliance,” the congresswoman established the alliance about four years ago in an effort to pool the resources and knowledge of the region’s business community to address similar concerns and problems facing businesses. At the breakfast meeting held at Southern California Edison in Monterey Park, chamber representatives discussed, among other things, the need to reduce crime and improve access to public transportation. Yolanda Duarte of the East Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, who chaired the discussion, said, “If we can bring about certain environmental changes and make things better in our neighborhoods, people will want to do business with us. We want to make sure our communities are thriving.”
