Following a short walk along the LA River, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard speaks about the importance of revitalizing the areas along the LA River at a press conference also attended by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, and Councilmembers José Huizar, Ed Reyes and Tom LaBonge. The congresswoman commended her fellow elected colleagues and local stakeholders for their efforts to revitalize the Los Angeles River and pledged to fight for continued federal funding for the effort when the federal Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) comes up for debate in Congress. The congresswoman, who represents the Downtown/Chinatown area along the Los Angeles River, said the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan blueprint unveiled earlier this month is a critical step forward in transforming the river and its surroundings into a shared community space, while maintaining its critical function of flood control. To date, the congresswoman has secured more than $3 million in federal funds for LA River revitalization projects.
