Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) meets with Beatriz Stotzer, Chairwoman of the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, to discuss ways to increase affordable housing in Los Angeles. A longtime advocate of affordable housing, the congresswoman now serves on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee in Congress which has federal funding jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation. From her seat on the committee, she will continue to support federal efforts to address the region’s critical housing shortage, increase homeownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing. According to 2005 census data, the median dollar value of a home in the congresswoman’s district is more than $407,000 while the median family income is about $34,500. The 34th Congressional District includes the communities of Bell, Bellflower, Bell Gardens, Boyle Heights, Commerce, Cudahy, Downey, Downtown Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Little Tokyo, Maywood, South Park, Vernon, and Walnut Park, and portions of Chinatown, East Los Angeles, Florence, Pico Union, and Westlake.
