Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanked Hoda Elshishtawy of Downey for her helpful assistance as an intern in her Washington, D.C. office this Fall. Born in Downey, Hoda attended Rio Hondo Elementary School and Griffiths Middle School in Downey before moving to Virginia in the 9th grade. After high school, Hoda returned to Los Angeles County to attend Cerritos College in Norwalk. Following graduation in May of next year, Hoda plans to study Middle Eastern Studies in graduate school and hopes to one day work in government and possibly run for public office. As part of the congresswoman's internship program, Hoda performed a wide variety of tasks, such as drafting letters, conducting legislative research, attending legislative briefings, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol Building, and basic clerical duties. Students who are interested in internship opportunities in the congresswoman's district or Washington, D.C. offices are encouraged to call Juan Carlos-Aviles in the congresswoman's district office at (213) 628-9230.
