At this year's service academy workshop at the Downey Public Library, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanked Nicholaus Parmer of Downey for his helpful assistance as an intern in her district office in downtown. As part of the congresswoman's internship program, Nicholaus performs a wide variety of tasks, such as drafting letters, data entry, research and basic clerical duties. He also accompanies field staff to briefings and events throughout the 34th Congressional District. His internship runs from September 13-December 13. Nicholaus is a 1997 graduate of Pope Pius X High School in Downey (now called St. Matthias) and a 2005 graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. As for future career ambitions, Nicholaus said he has been inspired by his work in the congresswoman's office and hopes to one day work in government and possibly run for a public office. Students who live in the 34th Congressional District and are interested in internship opportunities in the congresswoman's district or Washington, D.C. offices are encouraged to call Juan Carlos-Aviles in the congresswoman's district office at (213) 628-9230.
