Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard meets with Sandra Mendoza (pictured right) of Pico Union in Los Angeles. Ms. Mendoza was the congresswoman's nominee to attend the 7th Annual Democratic Hispanic Leadership Summit on Capitol Hill. Ms. Mendoza started the Metropolitan Democratic Club in Los Angeles which includes the areas of Pico Union /Westlake and Downtown Los Angeles.

During the summit, members of Congress joined more than 100 local Latino community leaders and representatives from national Latino advocacy organizations in unveiling the Democratic legislative agenda called the "Compromiso Demócrata con el Pueblo Latino: A New Direction for Latino Families." The agenda recognizes the needs of Latino families by: promoting economic empowerment; securing quality education for students; increasing access to affordable health care; ensuring a secure and dignified retirement for seniors; and enacting realistic and comprehensive immigration reform.
