Congresswoman Lucille Roybal Allard receives pencil drawings of her father, the late Congressman Edward Roybal, and of herself from Mr. Serafin Venegas who drew the pictures as a gift to the congresswoman for her efforts in helping him to secure medals that he earned during WWII. On August 15, 2002, Mr. Venegas received his Bronze Star Medal, along with other service medals, that he earned for service in the Pacific Asian theatre during WWII. Mr. Venegas, who lives in the central district of Los Angeles, is a self-taught artist who began drawing as a hobby while serving in Japan during the war. His artwork has been displayed during Hispanic Heritage Week at the 300 North Federal Building in Los Angeles.
