Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard visits with the patients and staff of the DaVita Downey Dialysis Center to learn more about dialysis and the center's outpatient services. Dialysis is a life-saving procedure performed routinely on individuals who suffer from chronic kidney failure. Dialysis filters substances from the blood that would normally be eliminated by a person's kidneys. The congresswoman is a co-sponsor of the Kidney Care Quality and Improvement Act which would grant full Medicare coverage of dialysis access procedures and establish a demonstration project to increase public awareness and research about the illness.
