Representatives of Arrow Abrasive Co. Inc. located in Downey, Calif. and California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC) honored Congresswoman Roybal-Allard with a plaque in recognition of her “Leadership in supporting manufacturing in California.”

The congresswoman secured federal funding last year for the California Enhanced Defense Small Manufacturing Suppliers Program administered by CMTC which assisted Arrow Abrasive Co. Inc. to explore, identify, and bid on Department of Defense opportunities that match their capabilities and interests.  The funding secured by the congresswoman enabled the expansion of the suppliers program which assists local small and medium-sized manufacturers in the state to provide the Defense Department with the parts and equipment it needs to meet our nation’s urgent defense requirements.  The Department of Defense program is also dedicated to increasing efficiency, reducing costs, eliminating product shortages and expanding the department’s base of suppliers.

Founded in 1976, Arrow Abrasive Co. Inc. employs 15 people in Downey, Calif. and supplies its abrasive disks to over 250 customers worldwide, exporting directly to Singapore, Peru, Canada, Mexico, and England and to other countries through their distributors.  During the tour, the congresswoman praised the company's innovative approach to staying competitive in today's global marketplace and highlighted the importance of the "Make it in America" legislative initiative in Congress to increase American manufacturing and create new American jobs.  The agenda includes a national manufacturing strategy that creates high‐skill, high‐wage jobs and promotes American competitiveness, innovation, and exports.  The initiative would boost domestic job creation by: closing tax loopholes that encourage the outsourcing of U.S. jobs overseas; providing hometown tax credits to help small businesses hire new employees and sell their products and innovation overseas; demanding that China and other countries honor fair trade principles or lose American business; and strengthening partnerships with businesses to retrain America’s workers for jobs of the future.
