An Affordable Housing Leader, Enterprise Honors Congresswoman Roybal-Allard

The Los Angeles office of Enterprise honored Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) with its Enterprise Visionary of the Year award at its Third Annual Southland Social themed "Celebrating Innovation, Honoring Partners" for her efforts to support innovative housing solutions for families in Los Angeles.  More than 200 community and housing leaders attended the event held at the W Hotel in Hollywood.

Enterprise’s office in Los Angeles is located in the South Park neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles in the 34th Congressional District.  Nationwide, Enterprise provides the capital and technical expertise needed to create decent, affordable homes and revitalize communities. Since 1982, Enterprise has helped produce neighborhood solutions to affordable housing through public-private partnerships with financial institutions, governments, community organizations and developers.  With more than $10 billion raised in equity, grants and loans, Enterprise has created 257,000 affordable homes, touching a million lives and thousands of communities. Currently, Enterprise invests in communities across the United States, including Los Angeles, at a rate of $1 billion a year.

Congresswoman Roybal-Allard made the following acceptance remarks:
“It is truly a humbling experience to receive this award from Enterprise which has a long and impressive history of helping low and moderate income families attain quality, affordable housing.  I want to recognize Board Chairman Ron Terwilliger for his steadfast efforts to bring quality housing and hope to vulnerable families and individuals.  And I thank Enterprise’s Vice President and Los Angeles Impact Market Leader, Jeff Schaffer, for diligently briefing my staff in Los Angeles and in Washington D.C. on how national legislation is impacting the affordable housing market here at home.  To the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of Enterprise, I sincerely thank you for this personally meaningful recognition and for your work to bring innovative solutions to some of our most complex housing challenges.  Enterprise’s visionary collaboration with non-profit, public, private and philanthropic partners is playing a critical role in advancing the growth of a diverse mix of affordable housing with greater access to jobs and support services that help stabilize communities.  To my fellow honorees: Bank of America and A Community of Friends, I extend my sincere congratulations for tonight’s recognition of your innovative partnerships and proactive strategies which help people in poverty and crisis have hope for a better tomorrow.  Finally, but certainly not least, I thank each of you in this room for your support of Enterprise and for your dedication to improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable and underserved populations of our society.  You are truly an inspiration to all of us and it is with you I share tonight’s recognition.”
