Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanked participants for attending a workshop she sponsored at the Downtown Women’s Center to assist local non-profit organizations that serve homeless clients access federal resources and resolve individual problems with federal agencies.
The congresswoman made the following remarks at the opening of the workshop: “Good morning and welcome to the first of a series of workshops I will be presenting around the district about the services my office offers that can assist you with your work.
I thank Lisa Watson, the CEO of the Downtown Women’s Center for allowing us to use this beautiful space for today’s workshop. I also want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being here, but most importantly, for your commitment to the underserved and homeless in our communities.
As the Member of Congress representing the 34th Congressional District, I have had the tremendous honor of working with many of your organizations in support of the valuable programs and services you provide our community.
As I have visited the various non-profits in my district, it has come to my attention that many are not aware of the services my office offers and how we can assist you in addressing those issues or your clients by cutting through the red tape and avoiding the voice messages you encounter when calling federal agencies about common issues such as Social Security, Medicare and VA benefits.
Today’s goal is to give you a better understanding of my services and how you can prepare your clients to get the best results.
My Casework Manager, Ray Alvarez, will provide you with an overview of our casework and coordination of services with federal agencies. Part 2 of today’s workshop includes a presentation from the Social Security Administration and the State of California’s Disability Evaluation Division.
I encourage you to take full advantage of your time here today by talking with my staff and our expert presenters about your work, and also by networking with each other to explore possible collaborative partnerships that can enhance your organization’s mission.”
