Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) congratulated members of VFW Post 2830 on the reopening of its post at 6611 Eastern Avenue in the City of Bell Gardens after relocating from Maywood to make way for a new school.
“I thank all of the service men and women here today for their service to our nation. As the wife of a former Marine Officer and Vietnam Veteran and the step-mother of an Iraq War veteran, I am fully aware that the debt we owe our veterans is immeasurable and can never fully be repaid,” said Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard during the reopening ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It is up to all of us to strive to ensure that the tributes we pay our veterans go beyond words and that their selfless service to our nation is not forgotten when they come back home. The reopening of the VFW Post 2830 helps to honor that commitment to the service men and women of our community.”
Founded 82 years ago, VFW Post 2830 encompasses the areas of Bell Gardens, Maywood, Bell, Commerce, Vernon, Huntington Park, South Gate and the Florence-Firestone area. Through its programs and advocacy, the VFW is committed to protecting the interests of veterans. In addition, many VFW Posts, including Post 2830, take a leading role in community activities and service to their neighbors.
During the congresswoman’s remarks, she highlighted her efforts in Congress to assist veterans, including passing legislation into law containing historic federal funding increases for medical care and higher education. The congresswoman also mentioned $7 million in federal funding she secured for USC’s military social work and veteran services program to assist veterans struggling with the psychological and emotional stress of combat upon their return home.
