Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) today congratulated the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on their award of approximately $9.8M in Community Transformation Grant (CTG) funds from the Department of Health and Human Services.
“This Community Transformation Grant will help L.A. County address the impact of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes in our communities. By promoting a healthy lifestyle, this grant will reduce health disparities in our County, improve overall health of my constituents, and help control health care spending. “
“This grant program is an important initiative of the Prevention and Public Health Fund created by the Affordable Care Act championed by Democrats in Congress and President Obama. This is another example of how the health care reform law will help Americans live healthier lives and reduce long-term health care costs.”
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is receiving $9,848,011 to improve the health of area residents, and will focus on expanding efforts in tobacco-free living, active living and healthy eating, quality clinical and other preventive services, social and emotional wellness, and healthy and safe physical environments. The L.A. County grant was the second largest in the nation behind the State of Texas and was awarded through a highly competitive process.
The Community Transformation Grants (CTG) program, created by the Affordable Care Act, will reduce health disparities and improve the health and well-being of Americans by creating healthier states and communities. Through the implementation of proven community-based programs, communities and states will provide support where Americans live, work, play, and go to school so Americans can lead healthier, more productive lives.
