Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) joined colleagues in voting for the Senate-revised, final version of H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on a vote of 220 – 211. Unveiled in January by President Joe Biden, the American Rescue Plan is a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that will help defeat the coronavirus, return children safely to the classroom, get vaccines to the American people, put dollars into families’ pockets and put Americans back to work. The bill will now be sent to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

After the bill’s passage, Rep. Roybal-Allard issued the following statement:

“On behalf of my constituents and the American people, today I was proud to vote to pass the final version of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. I am glad this robust relief package will now be sent to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

“Among its many provisions, this bill will deliver quick relief to individuals and families, including those of mixed status, by providing an economic impact payment of $1,400 to help pay for food, utilities, rent, medicine, and other life-saving essentials. It will also provide housing and food assistance to millions of Americans, expand access to affordable health care and safe and reliable childcare, and extend unemployment insurance.

“The American Rescue Plan will help us defeat the virus by enacting a national vaccination plan that includes setting up community vaccination sites nationwide. The bill will also scale up testing and tracing efforts, address shortages of personal protective equipment and other critical supplies, invest in high-quality treatments, and address health inequities. The plan will also make investments necessary to safely reopen our nation’s schools.

“I’m pleased this legislation will provide crucial support to our hardest-hit small businesses like those in my district and across the country that are struggling with the economic fallout of the pandemic. I am also pleased that it will provide necessary resources to protect the jobs of first responders, frontline public health workers, and other essential workers. I’m excited that the bill will help lift millions of American children out of poverty through the expansion and improvement of the Child Tax Credit.

“The American Rescue Plan is a bold investment that will protect the lives and livelihoods of the American people in my district, my state of California, and our entire nation. I applaud President Biden and my colleagues in the House and Senate who have worked so hard to address the catastrophic impact of the coronavirus pandemic with this robust, historic, and critically-needed legislation.”
