Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s fiscal year 2022 budget proposal:

“I applaud President Biden for prioritizing the needs of American families in his fiscal year 2022 discretionary funding request. Our nation has faced a trying and difficult year as we have dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the President’s proposed budget will help to continue the progress Democrats in Congress have made in keeping our nation healthy, safe, and competitive.

“I was proud to vote for the COVID relief packages that have kept American lives and livelihoods afloat over the course of the past year, including the most recent, the American Rescue Plan. Each package has helped my Los Angeles-area constituents stay safe and healthy and provide for their families during a time of severe economic downturn. From putting money in Americans’ pockets through direct relief checks to expanding the nationwide vaccination program and assisting business owners and essential workers, the American Rescue Plan is bringing real and tangible results to CA-40 and the nation.

“Although I am very proud that the American Rescue Plan and other relief measures helped the nation begin to turn the tide on the COVID-19 pandemic, the relief bills we passed were one-time expenditures. The funding included in the President’s FY2022 budget, including the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan, make critical investments in education, health care, and sustained economic development. These investments will be essential as we continue the momentum of our nation’s recovery and build a strong future in the years to come.
