Rep. Roybal-Allard Encourages #CA40 Families to be on the Lookout for Child Tax Credit Payments
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) is encouraging hardworking families to be on the lookout for advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit, starting on July 15th and continuing through December. The payments are being made available through the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which Rep. Roybal-Allard voted for and helped to pass and which was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March.
Rep. Roybal-Allard announced that more than 55,000 hardworking households in California’s 40th District, covering over 96% of the District’s children, could receive up to $300 per month per child from July-December and even more after filing their taxes next year. Nearly all families that are eligible for the Child Tax Credit should get their monthly payments automatically beginning July 15 with no further action required.
“The expanded Child Tax Credit monthly payments will make a serious impact on reducing child poverty in California’s 40th District and across our nation,” said Rep. Roybal-Allard. “I have been working for years to highlight the importance of this expanded credit and I was thrilled to help include it in the American Rescue Plan. I know firsthand that hardworking, dedicated parents are doing all they can to make ends meet and provide for their children, particularly as we continue to battle the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These payments will help parents provide for their children and will lift millions of children out of poverty to help ensure a brighter future for them and for generations to come. I urge CA-40 families to be on the lookout for payments starting on July 15th and to take full advantage of these federal funds.”
Rep. Roybal-Allard played a critical role in including the expanded Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan. For years, she has worked to highlight the need to address child poverty and has worked with her colleagues to make the expanded Child Tax Credit law. She also commissioned a study by the National Academies of Sciences that showed an expanded Child Tax Credit would be an integral solution for reducing child poverty nationwide.
Last month, Rep. Roybal-Allard joined her colleagues Reps. Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Barbara Lee (CA-13) for a virtual discussion about their work over the years to bring the expanded Child Tax Credit to fruition and to highlight the benefits it will have for working families.
Rep. Roybal-Allard notes that families in the 40th District that filed their 2020 tax return should receive payments automatically and should be on the lookout for payments starting on July 15th. Rep. Roybal-Allard also encourages families who were not required to file a tax return for 2020 but who qualify for the credit to go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-Filer Sign Up Tool to sign up today.
