COMMERCE, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) highlighted a total of $179,228,041 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that will help hardworking families in California’s 40th Congressional District and statewide pay for home energy heating and cooling costs, cover unpaid utility bills, and make cost-effective home energy repairs. Rep. Roybal-Allard also highlighted that this LIHEAP funding from HHS is being provided in addition to a total of $203,610,805 in LIHEAP funding for California through Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, which Rep. Roybal-Allard helped to pass last February and which helped ensure California families could cover energy costs during the hot summer months. When combined with the LIHEAP funding made available through the American Rescue Plan, the HHS funding will help more than 5 million households across the nation cover utility costs and pay for energy repairs.

“As families in California’s 40th District and across our state continue to battle with the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, these LIHEAP investments will help prevent them from being forced to choose between paying their energy bills and buying other necessities,” said Rep. Roybal-Allard. “For years, LIHEAP funds have helped Americans save money and afford both heating and cooling costs, including the costs of air conditioning, which so many Angelenos rely on to stay cool during the hotter months. I encourage my constituents to check their eligibility for these funds and explore the energy conservation and weatherization services provided through LIHEAP to help improve the energy efficiency of their homes.”

Local families who need help paying their energy bills should contact the California Department of Community Services and Development at 1-866-675-6623 or visit their website to check eligibility and learn more about how to receive assistance.
